LKAB Minerals manufactures a range of mineral fillers used in sealants and adhesives for cost reduction, rheology modification and pigment extension.
Sealants and adhesives are around us in everyday life. Many of these products use one of the natural minerals LKAB Minerals delivers. In particular, we have five natural minerals used as minerals for adhesives and sealants.
The industry uses the mineral UltraCarb as a rheological modifier in polysulphide sealants. Furthermore, it is an alternative to precipitated calcium carbonate.
UltraCarb provides excellent slump resistance and a higher gunning rate than other fillers in sealant systems. These properties result from the chemically basic nature of the Huntite and Hydromagnesite minerals, and the minerals’ high surface area makes them efficient acid-scavengers in pH-sensitive polymer systems.
Adding the Mica to the adhesive provides barrier properties and better adhesion to the substrate. You can use both Muscovite Mica and Phlogopite Mica to manufacture adhesives and sealants. We promote both Muscovite and Phlogopite Mica under our MicaFort brand.
Uses for uncoated Chalk include proven applications in extending the supply of Titanium Oxide, where our customers often use this practice. Especially in producing acrylic sealants, the colour and opacity are not affected by adding Chalk.
Coated Chalk products improve dispersion properties and reduce plasticiser demand in non-water-based sealant systems.
Many customers use Aluminium Trihydroxide (ATH) within adhesives and sealants to provide fire retardant properties and smoke suppression. Customers have achieved high filler levels with ATH, which remains stable within the adhesive or sealant at temperatures below 205°C (Degrees Celius).
Our marble extenders (Fordacal) product offer significant cost benefits and additional advanced technical solutions. The product works particularly well in conjunction with Titanium Dioxide.
We have a variety of grades which improve:
