Passive fire protection

Related industry uses: Fire protection systems

FireCarb reacts with heat to produce a significant volume of ash which is the principle of passive fire protection.

In applications such as door seals, pipe collars and wraps, fire pillows, intumescent liners for electrical fixing boxes and downlighters and air transfer grilles and dampers LKAB Minerals' expandable graphite product FireCarb is used as an active ingredient.

The significant expansion of FireCarb upon exposure to heat means the passive fire protection product will compartmentalise buildings in the outbreak of fire thus restricting the spread of flames and smoke.
