Alloying elements for steel qualities

LKAB Minerals offer molybdenum and tungsten as alloying elements for special steel qualities.

High-strength steel alloys containing Molybdenum are used e.g. for the manufacture of aircraft parts, industrial motors, electrical contacts and filaments.

Molybdenum also improves corrosion resistance to high chromium steels and improves weldability. Superalloys for applications where high temperatures are involved, also contain molybdenum.

Tungsten is used with nickel or iron to form "heavy alloys" which are then used for the production of wear-intensive parts.  Superalloys containing tungsten are e.g. used in turbine blades.
